The written qualifying examination is designed to test these subspecialty areas. Each subspecialty area is further defined by the following subcategories:
(1) Application
(2) Comprehension
(3) Knowledge.
(1) Application questions evaluate how the candidate uses his/her knowledge to solve clinical challenges within the particular subspecialty area.
(2) Comprehension questions evaluate the candidate’s understanding of how factual material fits together to define concepts within the particular subspecialty area.
(3) Basic knowledge questions evaluate the candidate’s understanding of generally accepted factual material in the particular subspecialty area.
