The written qualifying examination is designed to test these sub-specialty areas. Each sub-specialty area is further defined by the following subcategories:
(1) Application questions evaluate how the candidate uses his/her knowledge to solve clinical challenges within the particular sub-specialty area.
(2) Comprehension questions evaluate the candidate’s understanding of how factual material fits together to define concepts within the particular sub-specialty area.
(3) Basic knowledge questions evaluate the candidate’s understanding of generally accepted factual material in the particular sub-specialty area.
